Iced in

School here, as in many places west of the Mississippi, is closed because of this mornings huge winter storm. So far we have electricity and propane, so I've made a cup of coffee and watched the kids set up the Christmas tree.

It's standing up straight, and no one is bleeding. I'd call that a win.

Current favorite quote

"I started your life in a fit of passion, and I'll end it the same way."
Dr. Venture

I am not, however, in any way endorsing the show.

Okay, I find it funny in a sick and disgusting way.

Thanksgiving

I am thankful for:

  1. The Woman, who even as I write is cooking a turkey and contemplating baking several pies;
  2. Chaos, my older offspring;
  3. Mayhem, my younger offspring;
  4. Family and friends, they know who they are;
  5. God, who makes it all possible;
  6. The enormous dead bird in the oven;
  7. The Macy's parade, Chaos and Mayhem have been glued to it all morning;
  8. My Mac, a truth that is self-evident;
  9. Festive beverages, like coffee;
  10. My job, but don't tell the desk monkeys

Thanksgiving break

The break has begun. This is good because I have developed a cold. I slept late this morning, and I'm feeling somewhat better. But now I'm back at school, cleaning up the wreckage from the two-day week. I'll spend the break grading, as usual. Still, I will get some time with The Woman and the kids.

Monday

I hate Mondays. Fortunately, we have a short week because of Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is our last day this week. That makes today Thursday.

I think I hate Thursdays too.

Work work work

School lets out early today for a teachers' in service meeting. I'm sure the meeting is about curriculum, which we are madly revising to meet a sudden change in state requirements before a looming inspection.

Imagine my glee.

I grant him bloody,
Luxurious, avaricious, false, deceitful,
Sudden, malicious, smacking of every sin
That has a name.
